Group meetings are held the second Wednesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. at 591 Avenue C, Bayonne, NJ. Take the elevator to the 3rd floor. Family and friends are welcome.


 

  • On August 20th, 2007 at 6:00 p.m.  we will be holding our pool party at 16th Street Pool in Bayonne. This is a great evening with delicious food and music. What a fun way to reduce stress and relax with family and friends. This is a free event for everyone who has cancer and their families. If you would like to attend please call our office at (201) 823-9980.

  • On Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. our group will be holding a fundraiser. We will be presenting straight from Florida a night of dueling pianos, sing-alongs and a howling great time! Tickets for this event are $40.00 each and include a hot and cold buffet. There will be a cash bar and dress is casual. There is also going to be a journal and ads start at $20.00.   • We hold a craft night on the third Tuesday of each month and anyone is welcome to join us. All crafts are given to cancer patients at Bayonne Medical Center. There will be no craft night for the months of July and August, due to vacations. Craft night will resume in September.

On Monday, June 4th, 2007 about 36 women from our group attended the Celebration of Life event at the Westmount Country Club in West Patterson, NJ. This event is sponsored by the Komen Foundation and is an inspiration to all who have breast cancer. The highlight of the night was seeing Gloria Gaynor perform her song "I Will Survive" and she graciously posed for pictures and signed autographs. It was a wonderful night.

On Saturday, May 12, 2007, our group had a picnic at opening day of Monmouth Race Track. This was a great day for kids and adults alike. Everyone loved Mike Masone's famous sausage, pepper and onion sandwiches, as well as hot dogs, hamburgers, salads and watermelon. The kids had toys and plenty of room to play. Of course, the horses and jockeys were the highlight of the day and some of us even won.

On Friday, May 4th, 2007, forty of our members attended a performance of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater at the NJPAC in Newark. This was a wonderful show and we had orchestra seats and bus transportation from the bank. Everyone who went had a great time!

On Wednesday December 13th, 2006, we held our annual Christmas Party at the 4th Street Senior Center. About two hundred of our members and their families enjoyed a beautiful evening with music from DJ Juice and the girls from Holy Family Academy. We had wonderful prizes and delicious food from San Vito's. Jim Riccio our president and Mr. William Campbell our sponsor both said a few words. The kids from Bayonne High School did a great job of serving and helping out all of the people and all of the children who attended received a stuffed animal. We are all looking forward to another year of surviving.

On Sunday, October 22nd, 06, our group held our annual Spaghetti Dinner at the Sicilian Citizen's Club in Bayonne. We enjoyed delicious spaghetti & meatballs with homemade sauce, salad, bread and many different deserts that all of our members made.

On Monday, August 28th, 06, we held our annual barbeque/pool party at the beautiful 16th Street Municipal Pool in Bayonne. All of our members and their families enjoyed a beautiful evening with delicious food and music in a resort like setting under the stars. Jim Riccio, TJ Johnston and Mike Masone were our special cooks for the evening and did a fantastic job. It was truly a night to remember for us all.

On Saturday, June 24th, 06, we went to Monmouth Race Track. The group had a race dedicated to us and the food, prepared by Mike Masone was delicious!! This was a fun day for families and friends.

The American Cancer Society sponsored their annual Hudson County Relay for Life Walk-A-Thon here in Bayonne on June 16-17, 06, at Don Ahern's Veterans Stadium. It was a breath-taking event with a very special guest appearance buy Kayt Wolf who sings our theme song "These Hands".

On June 5th, 2006, over 35 women from our group attended the Celebration of Life dinner sponsored by the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation at the Westmount Country Club in West Paterson, NJ. It was a wonderful and inspirational night of remembrance for all of us.

On Saturday, May 20th, 2006, our group went on a bus trip to Atlantic City. We stopped at the beautiful Resorts casino and even played BINGO on the bus ride down.

On Saturday, May 6th, 2006, we went to the NJPAC to see the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. This was a wonderful opportunity for those lucky ticket holders to see a world class dance company for a very affordable price. What a great night!

On April 22, 2006, our group held its annual dinner-dance. This year we honored Mr. William Campbell, who has opened his doors and given our group a home. It was held at the Chandelier Restaurant, 1075 Broadway in Bayonne. Mr. Campbell loved his plaque and was very surprised by his new golf club.

Throughout the month of December, our group gave out over 2,000 toys and gifts to eight hospitals in New Jersey that treat children with cancer. We are truly grateful to everyone who worked on this toy drive. You have brought smiles and the excitement and happiness of the holidays to many children and their families.

On December 14th, 2005, we held our Christmas Party. Over 200 people attended at the 4th St. Senior Center for a wonderful evening of food and music. Beautiful centerpieces and placemats were made by the children of Midtown Community School in Bayonne. Two choral groups one from Bayonne High School and the other from Holy Family Academy sang and they were wonderful! Sharing the holidays together made all of our spirits stronger.

On October 23, 2005, our annual spaghetti dinner was a huge success and everyone who was able to come enjoyed a delicious Italian dinner. About 45 of our members and their families came out to share a Sunday dinner together. We can't thank Rocco Paolino, his wife Sophie, Linda Klimkowski and of course our wonderful chef's Luciano and Charlie for making this day one to remember for all of us. Everyone who brought a desert really outdid themselves. A real crowd pleaser was Felita Williams upside down pineapple cake and Barbara DiVizio's pistachio cake.

On September 26th, 2005, our group held their Annual Golf Tournment at the beautiful Essex County Country Club. Brian Campbell and his staff did a fanastic job co-ordinating this event for our group and we can't thank them enough. Everyone had an exciting day of golf and a great time.

On August 22nd, 2005, at 6:00p.m. the group held our annual pool party at 16th Street Municipal Pool in Bayonne. We had hotdogs, hamburgers, saugage, pepper and onion sandwiches and salad. Ice Cream and watermelon was our desert. Everyone brought their families and the kids had fun in the pool and with the DJ that provided beautiful music throughout the evening.

On June 14th, 2005, at 4:00 p.m., an evergreen tree was planted in front of Bayonne Medical Center in memory of George Strydio. This was done by the Medical Center as a living tribute to George for his untiring commitment to cancer patients and their families.

On June 6, 2005, 33 breast cancer survivors attended the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Celebration of Life dinner at the Westmount Country Club in West Patterson, New Jersey. This wonderful evening was an inspiration to everyone who is battling this disease.

On May 14, 2005 several of our members went on a bus trip to Monmouth Race Track for a day of fun at the races. It was a great day and everyone who attended had a lot of fun. One of the races was named in the group's honor and the food was simply delicious.

On May 7th, 2005 we held our Annual Dinner Dance. This year we honored our founder, George Strydio, who passed away on November 15, 2004. The Family Room on 3R in Bayonne Medical Center is going to be named in George's honor. This is indeed a fitting tribute to George who spent so much time on the hospital floor meeting and helping people and their families. We would like to extend a "Thank You" to everyone who made donations and worked so hard to make this event a success.

On February 13, 2005, twenty-five of our members celebrated the Chinese Year of the Rooster at the NJPAC in Newark. Everyone who went to see the Nai-Ni Dance Company celebrate the Chinese New Year at the NJPAC had a wonderful time. The show was a beautiful blend of traditional and contemporary music and dance. We hope to continue this program with NJPAC next year.

Throughout the month of December we delivered over a thousand toys and gifts to children with cancer and their families in seven area hospitals that treat children with cancer. It was a huge undertaking and everyone in our group and a few volunteers from the community did there all to make this a special Christmas for these children and their families. Thank you to everyone who helped us with this project.

December 11th, 2004, twenty-five of our members and their friends attended a show at the NJPAC in Newark called "Songs of the Season". It was beautiful and everyone had a good time.

December 8th, 2004, over 200 of our members and their families celebrated the holidays with a wonderful party at the 4th Street Senior Center in Bayonne. We had beautiful music and delicious food and two choral groups from Bayonne High School sang holiday songs.

November 15th, 2004, our beloved founder George Strydio passed on. He made a difference in so many of our lives and his memory will live on through our work with the support group that he started.

September 13, 2004, over forty of our members and their families enjoyed a spaghetti dinner at the Sicilian Citizen's Club. We had salad, spaghetti and meatballs, sausage, peppers and onions, as well as bread dessert and coffee. It was delicious! A huge thank you to Rocco Paolino who coordinated this event for us.

September 27th, 2004, our group held their annual Golf Outing at Essex County Golf Club. Brian Campbell and his staff did a tremendous job on this event. Everyone had a good time and enjoyed a wonderful day of golf.

September 25th, 2004, our group held a wine-tasting event at St. Andrew's Hall. The food was delicious and we all learned a great deal about different types of wines. Lillian Glazewski and her committee did an outstanding job.

August 23rd, 2004 thru August 27th, 2004 our group celebrated our living with, through and beyond cancer with a week full of activities. On Monday the 23rd we had a great pool party at 16th Street Municipal Pool and a good time was had by our members and their families. On Tuesday the 24th, we had a good time playing Bingo and on Wednesday, the 25th, we enjoyed a concert down by the park by Black 47, an Irish Punk Rock Bank that was great! Thursday, the 26th, we had an exciting day at the races at beautiful Monmouth Race Track and we ended our week on Friday the 27th, with a healing service that bought peace to all who attended.

On July 10th, 2004, several men from our group attended a prayer breakfast in Plainfield, NJ. The topic was "What's a Man Supposed to Do, Suppose to Be."

June 7th, 2004, thirty-eight women from our group attended the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Event. It was a wonderful and up-lifting experience for all who attended.

On May 5th, 2004, Jan Gorman was recognized as an Everyday Hero by Robinson School for making a difference in the community. Jan makes hats for patients who are undergoing chemotherapy for our group.


On April 17th, 2004 we held our First Annual Dinner Dance honoring the oncology nurses from the community. It was held at the Casino-in-the-Park in Jersey City. We presented the nurses with beautiful angels, plaques, and the city presented the nurses with citations and proclamations. It was a well deserved honor for them.

March 13th, 2004, several members of our group attended a cancer conference at Englewood Hospital and brought back plenty of information for our group.

On March 9th, 2004, four members of our group with their children were special guest of Mr. Brian Campbell at the "Bunny Hop" at American Girl Place in New York City. Proceeds from the event benefited the Dept. of Pediatrics at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. A good time was had by all big and small.

In February, 2004, George Strydio was appointed to the tumor board committee to represent cancer patients in our community.

On January 5th, 2004, two members attended a meeting of the President's Cancer Panel in Philadelphia, PA. The conference addressed the challenges of older adult survivors.

In January 2004, we started delivering birthday gifts each month to Newark Beth Israel Medical Center for pediatric cancer patients and we will continue this program as long as possible.

Throughout December 2003, we visited Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, Hackensack University Hospital, Robert Wood-Johnson University Hospital, St. Peter's University Hospital and Morristown Hospital to distribute the toys and gifts with Santa, that we collected and wrapped. Our toy drive was a huge success and brought smiles to everyone we visited.

December 10th, 2003, we held our second annual Christmas Party for our members and their families. A good time was had by all.

 

 

 

 

October thru December 2003, we held a toy drive for the five pediatric hospitals that treat children with cancer in our area.

On October 27th,2003, we held a gold tournament at Richmond County Golf Course in Staten Island. It was a beautiful course but a very wet day!

September 20th and 21st, 2003, Kathy McNulty walked 26.2 miles across the five boroughs of New York in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. All proceeds will go for breast cancer screening, diagnosis and research.

The last week of August 2003, the Mayor issued a proclamation naming the week for the Community Cancer Support Group. A pool party took place on Monday and over 200 people attended. Pamrapo Savings Bank sponsored refreshments and music. On Tuesday, we had a bingo night at the Recreation Center on 25th street and Wednesday we enjoyed music by the bay. On Thursday we went to Monmouth Park Race Track and we wrapped up the week on Friday with a healing mass by Fr. Doherty.

On July 12th, 2003, seven men from our group attended a prayer breakfast in South Plainfield and meet with the Archbishop.

On June 2nd, 2003, twenty women from our group attended the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Celebration of Life Event at the Westmont Country Club in West Patterson.

On April 26th, 2003, the Community Cancer Support Group held a dinner dance in honor of Dr. Iyengar at Puccini's in Jersey City.


March 30th, 2003, we held a spaghetti dinner at the Sicilian Club on 19th street and Ave. C. Everyone was stuffed-the food was delicious.

On March 25th and April 1st 2003, over 50 members visited the Ray of Hope House in Jersey City.

On February 13th, 2003, three of our members delivered Valentine cards that were made by the Kindergarten class at Midtown Community School in Bayonne along with bears ands balloons to the children in the pediatric clinic at Robert Wood-Johnson University Hospital.

On January 25th, 2003, six of our men attended a prayer breakfast and were honored as everyday heroes.

January 10th, 2003, four men from the group were special guests of Mr. Sal Alessi at a boxing match in Atlantic City to see Dennis Sharpe.

On December 19th, 2002, we visited Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and delivered Christmas gifts to their pediatric cancer clinic.

December 8th, 2002, Merrill Lynch and the Bayonne Office of Aging treated some of our members to a free lunch and one-hour free phone calls to anywhere in the world.

At our December meeting we held a beautiful Christmas Party for all of our members and their families.

In September 2002, Mr. Jim Guardino took part in a walkathon and raised over eight hundred dollars for the lymphoma society.

In August 2002, a tree was planted in memory of Mr. Frank Santollo at Mayor Dennis Collins Park, where Mr. Santollo enjoyed taking long walks.
